BIOGRAPHY
Julia Ramirez is a Jersey City–based contemporary dance artist, choreographer,
educator, and arts organizer. She holds a BFA in Dance Performance and an
Ed.M. in Dance Education from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts.
Her work centers on physical investigation, collaborative processes, and the intersection of performance, community engagement, and contemporary movement research.
Ramirez is the founding director of JRamirez & Artists, a project-based company creating
new contemporary dance works that explore themes of memory, social structures,
and the ways individuals navigate pressure, connection, and change.
Her choreographic projects have been presented in festivals and venues throughout
the Northeast and continue to evolve through interdisciplinary collaboration and
research-driven rehearsal processes.

Alongside her creative work, Ramirez is deeply involved in arts leadership
and program development. She works with Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup,
contributing to artistic initiatives, community programming, and major projects including the company’s 25th Anniversary season. She is also actively involved with Dance Italia,
supporting international artistic exchange and educational programming.

Julia is currently an adjunct Lecturer at Rutgers University and a dance educator at the Mark Morris Dance Center, Washington Rock Dance, and Accent School of Dance. She previously served on faculty at Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts, where she taught modern dance and composition, and continues to work throughout the tristate area as a guest artist and choreographer.
As a performer, Julia currently dances with Dance Visions NY. From 2020–2023, she worked with David Dorfman Dance as their Media and Artistic Assistant, contributing across artistic, administrative, and production roles.

Her practice bridges choreography, education, and arts organizing—building spaces where movement research, artistic dialogue, and community can develop together.
